FANCY JOINING CODS? HERE'S WHAT WE DO .....
CODS welcomes new members to join us for our productions.
ON STAGE OR OFF STAGE, THERE’S PLENTY TO DO!
CODS is a very active and friendly Society. With the Musical, the Play and the September Concerts, something is in preparation all year around.
Most of our rehearsals are on a Wednesday, though we also use Mondays when needed for principals and for play rehearsals. Rehearsals usually begin at 7.30pm in the Old Town Hall. This is located about half way through Crediton High Street, where Searle Street joins the main road.
An approximate time table for CODS shows is as follows:-
Musicals: Rehearsals begin mid October with auditions in the first weekend of December. The production takes place in the Easter school holidays.
Concerts/choral: Rehearsals begin the Wednesday after the Musical finishes and continue through the Summer months to the concerts in mid September.
Plays: A slightly more variable time table from year to year. But generally readings and play selection in May/ June. Rehearsals through to October. The production takes place in the October school half term. We do occasionally perform in other venues.
Pantomime: Fancy being in a Panto? Oh yes you do! We have added to our activities with a bi annual panto performed in the Old Town Hall, giving it a real ‘Village Hall’ panto feel as a pre Christmas event. This tends to be a short run in time, beginning rehearsals in early November with the performances the week before Christmas.
HELPING IN OTHER WAYS ….
Set building, Lighting, Sound, Costume, Front of House .
Most people join a society to perform on stage or sing in a choral concert. But in addition, we frequently welcome new members who join us to help in a variety of other ways, for example we have a well established costume team who are always looking for new helpers.
The set crew also are always looking for new recruits and there are a wide variety of skills needed in set construction and painting, lighting and sound.
In addition to these skills, help is always welcome as front of house and bar staff, chaperones during the run of the show, as well as pure and simple fetching and carrying when we set up shows and take them down after a run.
Take a look at this “Get IN’ for our production of ‘Made in Dagenham’. Turning a very ordinary school hall into a theatre requires a lot of hands on deck! A lot of skill goes into this process. If you would like to help, please let us know!
Performance Members
Anyone is welcome to come and join us. We are particularly keen to welcome young members, so don’t be shy, come along and see us!
The website should give you a good idea of what is happening at any particular time . Please use the ‘Contact Us’ button to get further information. Many people have joined the Society through this initial point of contact.
In common with other societies, you have to be a paid up member to perform. There is an annual fee to cover insurance and general admin matters. In addition there is a performance fee for participating in any of the productions. This can be paid weekly, or in one go. It covers the costs of the rehearsal venues, rehearsal pianists, some of the music, refreshments etc.
If you are interested in a particular principal part in any show, you are very welcome to audition as long as you are a ‘paid up’ member of the Society. It is also worth checking out any audition procedures that may apply to a particular production.

The Society is fortunate to have support from the Friends of the Society. Friends receive our Newsletters and early notice for booking.
