ABOUT OUR PLAYS\u00a0\u00a0………\u00a0<\/p>

In 1972 the first play was performed by the Society. It was \u2018The Chalk Garden\u2019 by Enid Bagnold. In fact the enthusiasm for drama was so great the Noel Coward\u2019s \u2018Hay Fever\u2019 was also performed in the same year.<\/p>

The \u2018D\u2019 for Drama had to be added to the Society\u2019s title from this point. So COS became CODS.<\/p>

Since that busy year CODS has performed a play in the October half term period almost every year. The exceptions were a Music Hall in 2009, Powder and Paint in 2012 and Trial on Pinafore in 2014.<\/p>

We perform in one of two of the QE Academy halls and, once again, make efforts to turn the venue into a performance space appropriate for the chosen\u00a0production.<\/p>

As far as possible we try to choose a play that will include the group that participate in the current years’ readings, assuming the reader wants to be on stage. But you can just come along and read for fun.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Play readings usually start at the beginning of May. By mid-June we hope to have chosen and cast a play. This will be produced in the Autumn half term period.<\/p>

Recently we have added Pantomine to our Drama section. Making use of Crediton’s Old Town Hall, give these productions a very ‘village hall’ feel. They are clearly popular as they sell out very quickly. Interestingly we seem to have as many adults in our audiences as we do children. and there is certainly a lot of participation!<\/p>

We have also produced plays in the Crediton Arts Centre and our local Parish Church.\u00a0<\/p>

There are some photographs in the archives from the 70\u2019s, 80\u2019s and 90\u2019s but sadly we do not seem to have recorded the plays as fully as the\u00a0Musicals!<\/p>
